The kitchen is the hub of activity for living and entertaining in any modern home. To create a dramatic centerpiece in this residence, a black walnut slab was honed and shaped to be an art piece as well as a functional dining table. Branching legs, inspired by nature, were crafted by artisans using nickel-plated steel to bring forth the organic beauty of the slab top. The walnut tree comes back to life in the space, creating a social center, rich in character with a sense of history. By attaching the table to the island, the kitchen and dining are combined for better function and use of space. To compliment the setting, a custom handmade chandelier appropriately named “the seed cloud” floats overhead in a delicate manner. A raw cedar ceiling was then used to bring character and warmth to finish this collection of materials. The overall experience is intended to be rich, grounding, and alive with natural beauty.
