INNER-CITY RESIDENCE

Located in the heart of Vancouver, this inner-city home embraces urban living through a bold façade and spatially optimized interior design. The dramatic street façade introduces a home that is both sculptural and refined, offering a strong visual identity within its dense urban context. The vertical expression of the exterior creates a powerful contrast against its natural surroundings, offering a sculptural presence that both anchors and elevates the streetscape.

Entering the home, the staircase serves as the structural and experiential spine of the house. This central circulation element not only connects all levels but orchestrates the flow of light and views throughout — anchoring the interior program while allowing rooms to radiate off its core.

With city site constraints in mind, every square foot of the plan has been leveraged for livability. Spaces are designed to feel generous despite urban footprint limitations. Subtle transitions of volume and finish reinforce a seamless integration of architecture and interior.

On the uppermost level, a private roof deck provides an elevated retreat. Here, a convertible retractable roof introduces an element of flexibility, allowing the space to shift effortlessly between open air and sheltered outdoor living. This feature not only extends the home’s spatial boundary upward, but introduces an elevated connection to sky, weather and cityscape.

Throughout, the design embodies the firm’s “inside out” ethos: the interplay of interior volume, transparency, and exterior elements that foster a sense of expansion and connection to the environment. The result is an urban home that feels intimately crafted – a powerful statement of contemporary city dwelling.
